Built Green BC is an energy savings initiative modeled after successful programs begun in other parts of Canada--currently only Alberta and BC-- and the U. S. A. in the past few years.  Built Green™ 's official website describes their program with the following: " Built Green™ is an industry-driven voluntary program that promotes "green" building practices to reduce the impact that building has on the environment. It benefits the homebuyer, the community and the environment and is an opportunity for everyone to choose a "green" future."  Sounds good, doesn't it?

• Together, you and your builder determine a list of energy saving and environmental impact reduction strategies tailored for your home. This list is then submitted, along with your house plans, to an approved energy auditor. 

• The auditor  reviews the information

• An Energuide Rating figure is issued  for your home, along with a list of further measures for you to consider. 

• Your contractor  builds the house to these standards,

• Built Green BC   verifies the energy efficiency level of the house. 

• You move into one of the best built, most energy efficient homes around and furthermore, may qualify for one or more incentive grants for having Built Green in B.C!
